## NormalMapAI — Free Online Normal Map & PBR Texture Generator
NormalMapAI (https://normalmapai.com) is a free, zero-login online Normal Map Generator and full PBR Texture Maker built on in-browser WebGL2 GPU shaders. Artists, game developers, and 3D printing creators can drop any 2D photo or texture to instantly generate tangent-space normal maps (OpenGL +Y and DirectX -Y), 16-bit PNG height/displacement maps, roughness, ambient occlusion (AO), metallic, curvature, specular, emissive, and channel-packed ORM maps. It also includes a seamless tileable texture maker, a transparent PNG background remover for decals and sprites, and an interactive 3D preview viewport (sphere, cube, plane, cylinder, torus) with HDRI/point lighting and glTF/Blender/UE5/Unity export presets. Every pixel is processed 100% locally in the browser so textures never leave your device.
Pricing: Free (100% free in-browser, no login required).
### Core capabilities
NormalMapAI turns a single 2D image into a production PBR texture set. Outputs include tangent-space normal maps in OpenGL +Y and DirectX -Y, 16-bit PNG height and displacement maps, roughness, ambient occlusion, metallic, curvature, specular, emissive, and channel-packed ORM maps. A seamless tileable texture maker and a transparent PNG background remover cover decals and sprites. The live 3D preview shows a sphere, cube, plane, cylinder, or torus under HDRI or point lighting, with export presets for glTF, Blender, Unreal Engine 5, and Unity.
### Engine workflows for Blender, UE5, and Unity
In Blender, connect the normal map through a Normal Map node into Principled BSDF, send the 16-bit height or displacement map into a Displacement node, and plug roughness, metallic, and AO into the matching sockets. In Unreal Engine 5, use the DirectX -Y normal and assign the ORM pack (occlusion, roughness, metallic) on the material. In Unity, place the maps on a URP or HDRP Lit shader and match the normal import type to the OpenGL or DirectX file you exported. Check the material in the browser viewport before you download.
### Step-by-step usage
1. Open https://normalmapai.com/ in a WebGL2 browser. No account and no login are required.
2. Drop a 2D photo or texture. Processing stays on your device; textures never leave it.
3. Generate the tangent-space normal map and choose OpenGL +Y or DirectX -Y.
4. Export 16-bit height/displacement, roughness, AO, metallic, curvature, specular, emissive, and ORM packed maps.
5. Optionally make the texture seamless and tileable, or remove the background for a transparent PNG decal or sprite.
6. Preview on the sphere, cube, plane, cylinder, or torus and download with a glTF, Blender, UE5, or Unity preset.
Ambient occlusion is generated locally with the rest of the PBR set. Related tool:
